The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, delivered a decisive critique of former President John Mahama during his speech at the NPP Manifesto Launch held at GSTS, Takoradi on August 18, 2024.
Addressing the audience, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the shortcomings of Mahama’s presidency while endorsing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the ideal leader for Ghana’s future. President Akufo-Addo highlighted that, unlike past presidents John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and himself, whose records were deemed worthy of a second term, Mahama’s tenure was not considered deserving of re-election. The President further emphasized that Mahama’s past performance remains a significant issue.
There is only one whose record did not merit a second term. And you and I know who I am talking about is the man who wants to come back to save his image because he believes that Ghanaians have forgotten his record
Mister candidate, your record has not been forgotten. We will not allow that record to be forgotten
In contrast, President Akufo-Addo strongly endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the leader best suited to advance Ghana’s development highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s suitability for the era of digital transformation
So I don’t have any hesitation in saying to you and saying to the people of Ghana that the leadership that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is going to provide for us is exactly the leadership we need to take us to the next step of our development
If indeed the biggest strategic interest of the 21st century is the development of the digital economy and the unfolding of the fourth industrial revolution, there is only one man in Ghana today that can take us through that fourth industrial revolution. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is his name.
Concluding his speech, President Akufo-Addo reinforced his confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, emphasizing that he will be supported by a capable and dynamic team. This strong endorsement underlines Dr. Bawumia’s readiness and ability to lead Ghana into a prosperous and technologically advanced future.
