MY 8-YEAR VISION AIMS FOR HIGHER ACCOUNTABILITY THAN MAHAMA’S 4-YEAR STRATEGY – DR. BAWUMIA

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has committed to be more accountable than former President John Dramani Mahama if he is elected in the upcoming December elections.

According to Dr. Bawumia, this pledge is a result of his aspiration for an eight-year leadership term, which sets him apart from Mahama’s potential four-year term.

During a meeting with various professional groups in Kumasi on Monday (10 June), as part of his three-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that an eight-year term would require diligent work to justify his initial term and ensure accountability in order to secure a second term.

I believe that if you make me president, I will be more accountable to you because I will be looking for an eight-year term. This means I have to work very hard in the first four years to justify why you should give me another four years.

Dr. Bawumia stressed that his main opponent, former President Mahama, does not prioritize accountability like he does. He argued that a single term presidency would not lead to the same level of accountability.

My main opponent is only looking for a four-year term. Once you give it to him, he will go on his honeymoon, and when he returns, you will not see him again. There will be no accountability. But with me, you will get accountability.

He emphasized the significance of being accountable in leadership, pledging to provide frequent updates to the people of Ghana on his achievements and to dedicate himself to securing a re-election for a second term.
