The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his commitment to prioritizing the private sector as a means to support the government’s development initiatives, should he be elected as President.
During his address to a group of Ghanaian youth on Sunday, November 3, the Vice-President emphasized the importance of allocating more infrastructure projects to the private sector through concession agreements, thereby reducing the financial burden on the government.
Dr. Bawumia pledged that if he assumes the presidency, road construction, and other infrastructure projects will be entrusted to the private sector under a concession agreement facilitated by the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
My administration will incentivize the private sector to complement the government in the provision of many infrastructure and other services to reduce government expenditure and improve maintenance.
We are going to do something that has not been done before. We are going to engage the private sector to build roads, schools, hostels, and government houses and to rent or lease to own.
I believe that the private sector should finance the construction and maintenance of roads through PPA concession arrangement,” he stated.
With this approach, the budget can save very significant outright cash expenditure annually from various items across Ministries, agencies, and departments.
