Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasized that his potential presidency will encompass and bring advantages to all citizens of Ghana.
He has firmly stated his dedication to ensuring that no specific group is left behind or marginalized if he succeeds in winning the presidency during the forthcoming December 2024 elections. Dr. Bawumia’s unwavering commitment to fostering unity and inclusivity aligns with his comprehensive vision for the progress and growth of the nation.
Reflecting on his presidential ambition, Dr Bawumia acknowledged the initial doubts surrounding the possibility of a Muslim candidate clinching the NPP’s presidential ticket. Nevertheless, he emphasized that his groundbreaking candidacy symbolizes a pivotal moment, indicating Ghana’s openness to diversity and inclusivity in its leadership.
He stated that his candidacy epitomizes Ghana’s shared desire for a leadership that is representative and serves all its citizens, irrespective of their religious beliefs. While speaking to a group of Imams during his campaign visit to the Bono Region in Sunyani, Dr Bawumia revealed his intentions to establish three Islamic Colleges of Education. These educational institutions, located in the Northern, Middle, and Coastal regions, demonstrate a deliberate investment in education tailored to meet the needs of the Muslim community.
My election as flagbearer of NPP is historic. It has never happened in Ghana. Many people doubted that a Muslim could be a Presidential candidate but I said it is possible.
I want to become President for all to benefit. At first, those of us from the North thought we had been sidelined in the country’s governance. That’s why when I became Vice President, I advocated the Zongo development fund.
