Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated categorically that his view on the issue of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTG), aligns with the position of his religious faith.
Speaking at the Kumasi Central Mosque during the Eid celebration, Dr. Bawumia revealed that his faith and religion glare against the practice of same sex and marriage and such he is against it. He stressed further that putting aside the concept of religion and faith, the cultural norms, values and morals of the country glares against the practice of same sex which he believe we should preserve at all cost.
On the issues of LGBTG, first of all, it is important to note that our cultural and societal norms and values as Ghanaians frown on the practice of homosexuality. Furthermore, as a Muslim, my view on this matter aligns with the position of my religious faith.
He noted that the Holy book of Islam which is the Holy Quran speaks against the practice and and such he can’t go against the Holy book and the country’s norms and values by supporting the practice.
The Holy Quran is replete with verses frowning on LGBTQ acts, including same-sex marriages. My faith is therefore very strictly against the practice of homosexuality. no ‘ifs’ or ‘buts’. No shades of grey.
Dr. Bawumia urged all Muslims and Ghanaians to do their best to project and promote peaceful co-existence as the election draws near.
