NANA AKOMEA OUTLINES DR. BAWUMIA’S PLAN TO REDUCE HOUSING COSTS

In an exclusive interview on GH One TV, Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, detailed a bold proposal by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to tackle the high cost of housing in Ghana. According to Akomea, the primary factors driving up housing prices in the country are land acquisition costs, legal fees, and the installation of utilities such as roads and water systems.

Akomea explained that under Bawumia’s plan, the government would take a proactive role in addressing these challenges to make housing more affordable for Ghanaians.

The major costs of housing come from the land, the litigation involved, the people you have to pay, and then the infrastructure – roads, utilities, and so on. What Bawumia is proposing is that the government take charge of these elements.

Once the government secures the land, clears the legal hurdles, and works with banks across the country, the developer’s only job will be to build. This will help increase the supply of housing, which in turn will drive down the overall cost

By cutting out these intermediary costs and reducing the barriers to entry, we can make housing more accessible and affordable for all Ghanaians

Akomea stated.

According to Akomea, this initiative is part of Bawumia’s broader vision for an inclusive economy where housing is no longer a luxury but a basic right for Ghanaians. The Vice Chairman also stressed that reducing housing costs would have a positive ripple effect across other sectors, including transportation, utilities, and even food prices, as more affordable homes would lead to more sustainable communities.

“This is about building a future where every Ghanaian can own a home, Akomea said

Bawumia’s plan is a game-changer for the housing sector, and it’s the kind of leadership Ghana needs to make life easier and more affordable for its citizens.

With Bawumia’s housing strategy, the campaign aims to significantly reduce the barriers to homeownership and address the challenges that have long plagued the housing market in Ghana. The plan is expected to be a major part of Bawumia’s agenda if he assumes office.
