In a recent interview on GH One TV, Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of the Bawumia Campaign Team, unveiled an ambitious strategy put forward by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to significantly reduce electricity costs across Ghana. The plan focuses on harnessing solar power to provide 2,000 megawatts of electricity, a move that Akomea believes will drastically lower the cost of electricity for consumers.
According to Akomea, Bawumia’s strategy includes the installation of 5 million solar panels across the country, a plan that would not only generate clean energy but also reduce Ghana’s reliance on more expensive, traditional power sources.
Bawumia’s vision is clear: by bringing on board 2,000 megawatts of solar power, we will lower electricity costs, making it more affordable for Ghanaians,
Akomea explained during the interview.
He went on to highlight that this initiative would create local job opportunities and boost Ghana’s renewable energy sector.
We plan to set up a factory here to produce the solar panels. We’ll also send people to Germany and other countries for training so we can develop the necessary skills locally,
this is not just about energy; it’s about transforming the entire economy, by reducing electricity costs, we will create a more affordable environment for housing and transport, making life easier for Ghanaians.
The project, which is expected to be rolled out in phases over the next few years, aims to reduce electricity costs while fostering sustainable growth. The Bawumia campaign is confident that this renewable energy initiative will be a game-changer for the country’s energy sector and economic future.
