Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications and Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, expressed his appreciation for the running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s apology regarding the controversial Kwame Nkrumah comment during an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile.

He stated that NAPO’s apology shows “maturity and leadership.” Aboagye emphasized the significance of acknowledging Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s character and giving credit to the NPP running mate instead of criticizing him.

NAPO has apologized and I think that it shows the way,

He highlighted that other leaders, such as former President Mahama, have made comparable or even more severe remarks without encountering equivalent consequences.

We’ve seen leaders including former president Mahama make worst comments and he hasn’t even had the course to think that he has to come and apologise so that alone is leadership and maturity that he has shown.

On July 9, at the unveiling ceremony in Kumasi for Dr. Opoku Prempeh, he stated that no president has advanced the nation as much as President Akufo-Addo, not even Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He emphasized that Nkrumah’s time in office resulted in fewer achievements compared to President Akufo-Addo’s. Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s remarks received considerable criticism, leading him to apologize after initially standing by his statement.

Nevertheless, Kofi Bentil, Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, criticized Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s comments regarding Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, deeming them politically inappropriate.

Bentil argued that these statements were disrespectful to the legacy of the esteemed leader, suggesting that Dr. Prempeh’s remarks only served to benefit his political opponents.
