In a major political breakthrough, some young members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have left the party to join the NPP. They left the NDC in the Kpatinga community of the Gushegu Constituency, citing the Free SHS policy as the cause for their departure.
The action is being taken as part of Hassan Tampuli’s campaign, who is running for the Gushegu Constituency parliamentary seat with the New Patriotic Party.
The defecting group’s leader claimed that budgetary limitations presented several difficulties for them as they pursued their secondary studies.
However, they were able to complete their education without financial stress after the NPP government introduced the Free SHS program in 2017.
They claim that this has completely changed their lives, and they are now determined to represent the NPP and the Free SHS policy in the Gushegu Constituency as ambassadors.
The young people who defected also gave Hassan Tampuli, the current Gushegu MP, credit for his many local development initiatives.
They promised to put in endless effort to secure his reelection so that his good deeds would continue.
The NPP’s campaign in the Gushegu Constituency is expected to benefit greatly from this event, as many people think Tampuli and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate, will both easily win on December 7, 2024.
The NPP government’s well acclaimed Free SHS program was launched in 2017 with the goal of providing more Ghanaian students with access to secondary education.
Enrollment rates have increased and parents’ and guardians’ financial burdens have decreased as a result of the policy.
The NDC youth’s defection in Kpatinga is evidence of the Free SHS policy’s effect on young Ghanaians’ lives as well as the NPP’s dedication to youth development and education.
