Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding their recent protest against the Electoral Commission (EC). On September 17, the NDC organized a demonstration, alleging that the EC’s voter register is rife with irregularities.
They assert that the Commission harbors ulterior motives aimed at manipulating the forthcoming elections to benefit the ruling NPP and its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The police sanctioned the protest, titled “Enough Is Enough,” which took place across all 16 regions. The opposition party is calling for a forensic audit of the voter register by an independent body, as well as an additional exhibition prior to the elections.
During the protest, some placards displayed messages such as “No Clean Register, No Peace.” In response to the demonstration on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ show, Henry Nana Boakye deemed the NDC’s nationwide action as unnecessary.
For me, this is one of the most useless demonstrations ever.
Nana B, as he is fondly referred to, delivered a serious admonition to the Electoral Commission, urging them not to engage a foreign organization to conduct an audit of the register in response to the NDC’s request.
We, in the NPP, we will not allow any foreign interference. We will not any whatever name — independent body — to come and sit on a constitutionally created body, mandated, well-established, having districts and offices. To say we should employ the services of another independent body, I mean what has happened? What’s the issue?
We will not allow it and any attempt from the Electoral Commission to go for another body to conduct a forensic audit, we will resist it fiercely. In fact, the NDC’s demonstration will be the least.
