NPP Deputy National Campaign Chairman Nana Akomea has expressed astonishment at the extent of the NDC’s anxiety regarding the proposed presidential debate between John Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on Joy FM, Nana Akomea acknowledged that while the NDC is free to decline the debate, the numerous excuses they are presenting to avoid it reveal a deep-seated panic at the mere idea of debating Dr. Bawumia.
He highlighted some of the NDC’s reasons for avoiding the debate, including claims that “Bawumia has not debated market women, has not debated with the media or held a press conference, should first debate with NDC members in Parliament, has not shown adequate respect for John Mahama, has exhibited belligerence and ‘patapaa’ in calling for a debate, and has not demonstrated accountability for his role as Vice President.” Nana Akomea also noted that the NDC even criticized the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) for suggesting the debate, accusing the Institute of aligning with the NPP.
Nana Akomea dismissed these reasons as “frivolous” and emphasized that a debate would provide John Mahama and the NDC with an opportunity to challenge Bawumia on their allegations.
It is therefore shocking that the NDC is doing everything possible to avoid a debate,
he remarked. He concluded that this behaviour should signal to the electorate that the NDC is aware that John Mahama is no match for Dr. Bawumia.
