The National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Programme (NEIP) has introduced a new project aimed at generating 120,000 jobs by providing training to 100,000 individuals in various skill areas.
This initiative, called the Skills For Jobs (S4J) Project, was officially launched in Accra as part of efforts to address unemployment, a significant issue among Ghanaian youth. The project seeks to curb rural-urban migration while tackling the jobs and skills gaps, particularly for youth in rural and peri-urban areas.
The intervention will equip around 100,000 young people with essential lifelong skills to improve their employability and foster sustainable livelihoods across the country. The training will be conducted across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Speaking at the launch, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, CEO of NEIP, highlighted the organization’s achievements since 2017, including business development support for about 250,000 beneficiaries, starter packs for 35,000 businesses, and financial support for 15,000 companies, resulting in approximately 100,000 jobs created.
He added,
We are once again unveiling another significant initiative from H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia—the Skills for Jobs project. This expanded program builds on the vocational training we provided under the Kayayei Empowerment Programme, where 5,000 women were trained in various skills. Now, an additional 100,000 youth across the country will benefit.
The training will cover areas such as soap and detergent making, cereal processing, yoghurt and local drink production, cosmetics, baking, beading and jewellery, pedicure & manicure, décor, makeup artistry, mobile phone repairs, key cutting, CCTV installation, and general entrepreneurship and soft skills training.
The selection of trainees will involve MPs and MMDCEs from districts across the country.
Dr. Steven Amoah, Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of Wealth Creation, reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling unemployment through initiatives like the Skills for Jobs Project and encouraged the youth to seize these opportunities to transform their lives.
