Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, has assured farmers that a future government led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will not introduce a ‘smoke tax’ on agricultural activities.
Kofi Ofosu Nkansah’s statement was issued in response to claims from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) about potential tax increases that could impact farmers.
In a recent viral video, an NDC representative was seen speaking to cocoa farmers, alleging that a future Bawumia-led government would introduce a tax on the burning of unwanted farm materials.
However, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah dismissed these claims as unfounded propaganda in a post on his Facebook page on Friday, October 11.
He reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and highlighted various initiatives focused on improving farmers’ livelihoods across the nation.
Mr. Nkansah stressed that a Bawumia administration recognizes the vital role of agriculture in Ghana’s economy and remains dedicated to creating a favorable environment for farmers to thrive, without imposing unnecessary financial burdens.
Mr. Nkansah further emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to provide financial resources and support to farmers, ensuring they can operate without the burden of additional taxes.
He encouraged farmers to stay optimistic about the future, affirming that a Bawumia-led government would place their well-being at the forefront of its agenda.
The NEIP CEO urged farmers to concentrate on their agricultural work and not be swayed by political misinformation, reassuring them that the government is fully committed to helping them cultivate the land and sustain the nation’s food security.
