District Chief Executive for Amansie South, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, emphasized that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party support legal mining in Ghana, but oppose illegal mining.
Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo,” he clarified that “galamsey” is prohibited, and the government will not endorse such activities.
CID condemned those using the issue for partisan politics, reiterating the government’s stance against illegal actions.
No one in our party or government opposes mining, as it plays a vital role in our GDP. However, every responsible government stands against illegal mining because it is unlawful. We cannot tolerate any illegal activities in this country
Meanwhile, over 100 soldiers have been deployed to galamsey sites to combat illegal mining.
This operation, called “Operation Halt,” is part of the government’s renewed effort to address the issue.
