NPP’S AMBITIOUS AGENDA 111 PROJECT GAINS MOMENTUM

The ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP), set an ambitious goal to construct hospitals across Ghana under the Agenda 111 programme. Announced during his March 2022 State of the Nation Address, the President expressed his determination to complete this hospital-building initiative before leaving office in 2025.

Additionally, the programme encompasses six new regional hospitals for the six new regions, the rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region, a new regional hospital for the Western Region, and three psychiatric hospitals for the northern, middle, and coastal zones.

Despite the President’s confidence, some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members claim the NPP government has not built any hospitals in the country. In March 2024, NDC flagbearer John Mahama expressed skepticism about the feasibility of the Agenda 111 project. Speaking with clergy members in Accra, Mahama described the initiative as overly ambitious and unlikely to be completed within a reasonable timeframe.

In contrast, the ruling NPP’s deputy general secretary, Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, demonstrated support for the programme. During a tour of the Upper East Region, Tsiboe-Darko visited a hospital project under Agenda 111 alongside NPP presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia, underscoring the party’s commitment to the initiative.
