NPP’S HENRY NANA BOAKYE CALLS FOR CRUCIAL DEBATE BETWEEN BAWUMIA AND MAHAMA

Henry Nana Boakye, National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has underscored the need for a direct debate between NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the main opposition candidate, John Mahama.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM show, Boakye emphasized that such a debate would be vital for Ghanaians to hear clear policy discussions from the leaders of the two major political parties.

Highlighting Mahama’s previous roles as vice president and president, Boakye noted that Mahama has been discussing policies, including the 24-hour economy, but has struggled to communicate them effectively to the public. He believes a debate would clarify these policies and allow for a direct comparison of the two candidates’ visions for Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia, addressing supporters in Bunkpurugu, North East Region, expressed eagerness for a debate with Mahama but was doubtful it would happen, accusing Mahama of “running away.”

Boakye argued that the debate should focus solely on the NPP and NDC candidates, as they are the primary contenders. He stressed the importance of such a platform, particularly given the NDC’s criticisms of Bawumia’s role in economic management.

Debates provide an essential platform for Ghanaians to hear directly from their leaders. Both NPP and NDC candidates are touring the country, and there is high anticipation for this debate among the public.

He also mentioned that major organizations, including the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA), and the Trades Union Congress (TUC), would be keenly interested in the debate.

It was interesting to see their engagement. We need this intellectual debate. People are looking for it, and it is very important we need to have it.
