NPP’S OPOKU AGYEMANG SUPPORTS DR. BAWUMIA’S PLAN FOR 50 MINISTERS

The Chairman of the Legal and Governance Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, has expressed his endorsement of a streamlined government structure as advocated by the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

This endorsement was articulated during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Monday, in response to Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to restrict ministerial appointments to 50 should he be elected as the next president of Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized during the NPP manifesto launch in Takoradi on August 18, 2024, that effective governance does not necessitate a large cabinet.

I will have no more than 50 ministers in my government.

Mr. Agyemang, in support of this approach, emphasized the importance of credibility in politics and conveyed his trust in Bawumia’s integrity and his commitment to fulfilling his promises.

If Ghana can be developed with 50 ministers, then so be it. There are ministries that one person cannot handle alone and might need a deputy.

He consequently commended Dr. Bawumia for his dedication to an efficient government.

Offering service has many ways, and not everyone will get a ministerial position. We must support the flagbearer’s vision and not be selfish. The position of ministers of state and ministers will add up to 50, but this is the first promise we have made, and we believe we can achieve it.

Mr. Agyemang also discussed the suggested biennial review of asset declarations and emphasized the necessity for consolidation among ministries. He highlighted the significance of commitment to serving Ghana.

There are many ways to serve and be recognized. We are not entering this for ‘do or die’ but to work for Ghana.
