PARLIAMENT IS NOT A ‘BOXING RING’ – NAPO CRITICIZES ‘DISORDERLY’ NDC MPS

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the NPP and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has vehemently criticized the “unruly behavior” exhibited by the NDC Minority Caucus in Parliament on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

He addressed the NDC Members of Parliament, who intentionally attempted to incite the Majority Caucus into a violent altercation by occupying their seats, emphasizing that Parliament should not be treated as a boxing ring.

The free-for-all fight and bloodshed they (NDC Minority) were expecting in Parliament last Tuesday, we didn’t give them. We didn’t give them because we are disciplined and mature. We understand that Parliament is a place for intellectual debate, not a boxing ring. Unlike them, the NPP always prioritizes the peace and stability of this country.

The legislator for Manhyia South, who has served in Parliament for nearly 16 years, urged his fellow parliamentarians from the NDC to remain focused on their essential duty of creating pertinent legislation and advocating for the well-being of their constituents.

He emphasized that boasting about engaging in physical altercations and other forms of violence within Parliament is utterly unacceptable and unbefitting of its members.

Commonly referred to as NAPO, he made these comments during a stakeholders’ engagement on Thursday, October 24, 2024, while addressing students at the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College as part of his constituency outreach in the Greater Accra Region.

Additionally, he underscored the government’s accomplishments in the health sector, specifically mentioning the Agenda 111 initiative and the reinstatement of allowances for trainee nurses that had been abolished under the previous Mahama-led NDC administration.

He encouraged them to maintain their trust in the New Patriotic Party and to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in order to enhance their quality of life.
