POWER OUTAGES ARE OVER, SUPPLY NOW STABLE – AKUFO-ADDO ASSURES GHANAIANS!

The president highlighted that the government, in collaboration with key energy sector stakeholders, has successfully addressed the issues.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians that the recent power outages nationwide have come to an end. He explained that the challenges were due to technical and capacity issues, not financial limitations.

In an interview on Kumasi-based Hello FM on Tuesday, November 26, the President acknowledged the disruptions in power supply over the past two weeks but emphasized that the government, in collaboration with key energy sector stakeholders, has successfully resolved the issues.

We’ve had challenges, especially in the last couple of weeks, and the Ghana Gas supply tripped. We’ve had capacity challenges during this period, which resulted in the power outages. This is not financial

He explained that the load management issues stemmed from capacity constraints and mentioned that critical facilities, such as the Asogli power plant, which had been offline, are now fully operational again.

Asogli, which was out of the system, is now back. But today, we can assure the country that there would be uninterrupted supply. There would be full load, and management is now completely secure and stable

The recent power outages had sparked public outcry, with concerns about their potential impact on businesses and livelihoods. President Akufo-Addo’s reassurance brings relief to many Ghanaians who had feared a return to the prolonged “dumsor” period.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has promised an uninterrupted power supply following successful negotiations with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) regarding outstanding payments.

Reports indicate that the government has reached a temporary agreement with the IPPs, addressing part of the arrears and establishing a payment plan for the remaining balance. This resolution is expected to stabilize electricity generation and reduce tensions within the energy sector.

ECG’s External Communications Manager, Nii Ayiku, confirmed that the negotiations had averted the potential crisis.

We are engaging with the IPPs to make sure that the outages that were experienced over the weekend won’t continue. It is not just about the IPPs that are having issues with the ECG, but as indicated by the Acting Management Director, we are in full engagement with the IPPs, and we are very sure and hopeful that everything will fall into place
