Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has urged Ghanaians to seek divine guidance for the Electoral Commission (EC) as it prepares for the 2024 general elections.
He made this call on Monday, September 9, 2024, while submitting his presidential nomination forms to the EC.
Accompanied by his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, their spouses, and other key party figures, Dr. Bawumia became the first sitting Vice President to file for the presidency and the first candidate to submit his forms for this year’s elections.
He highlighted the significant responsibility of the EC in overseeing the elections and emphasized the need for prayers to guide the Commission’s work.
“The EC faces a monumental task in organizing this year’s elections, and it is vital for Ghanaians to pray for them as they ensure a smooth and successful process,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also expressed his trust in the EC’s ability to conduct a transparent and credible election.
In response, Jean Adukwei Mensa, the EC Chairperson, revealed that a special team has been established to ensure that all candidates meet the necessary electoral requirements. She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting the process fairly and impartially.
