President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, credited Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the brain behind Agenda 111, the country’s ambitious healthcare initiative.
In his address during his visit to the Northern Region on Tuesday, the President highlighted the importance of this project, which aims to improve healthcare access by building hospitals in districts that currently lack them.
The President recalled a significant moment during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when Dr. Bawumia approached him with alarming information from his research team: 88 districts in Ghana had no district hospitals.
When you are having a disease that is affecting people across the board without distinction, whether they are high or low, you need medical facilities that everybody can have ready access to.
Recognizing the urgency, President Akufo-Addo verified the information with his health advisor, Dr. Nsiah Asare, who confirmed that the actual number was even higher—101 districts without hospitals.
This crucial data led to the creation of Agenda 111, which plans to construct hospitals in these underserved areas, along with additional regional and psychiatric facilities. The President emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s quick thinking and commitment to addressing the nation’s healthcare needs, declaring,
This is the sort of man that you entrust power to. He’s always thinking about the country.
In conclusion, President Akufo-Addo urged the people of the North East Region to come together and support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid due to his quality.
I urge all of you here in the North East region to unite and put your shoulder to the wheel to make Mahamudu Bawumia the next president of Ghana. This man has the quality to lead our nation.
