President Akufo-Addo is set to commence his campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential nomination for 2024, alongside Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as well as all parliamentary candidates representing the party in the 276 constituencies.
This campaign will officially begin on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. The President’s campaign tour is expected to last approximately 65 days leading up to the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 7, 2024, starting in the Upper East and Upper West Regions.
According to sources acquainted with the President’s schedule, he intends to visit and campaign across all 16 Regions of the nation prior to the election date.
Furthermore, the President’s team has informed Asaase News that he will depart for France and Germany on Thursday, October 3, 2024, for an official engagement.
Following his return, he will continue his regional campaign for the NPP’s 2024 presidential ticket, which includes Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh. President Akufo-Addo is expected to conclude his term as President of the Republic on January 7, 2025, and he has articulated a strong desire to transfer leadership to his long-time partner, who has accompanied him through four consecutive elections in Ghana (2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020).
Of these elections, President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia experienced two losses (2008 and 2012) and achieved victory in two (2016 and 2020).
In recent months, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, have been actively engaged in constituency-focused campaigning. Currently, Vice President Bawumia is in the Western Region, while Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is campaigning in the Ashanti Region.
