At the NPP Manifesto Launch on August 18, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made a fervent appeal to party members to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Matthew Opoku Prempeh, describing them as the “golden ticket” for Ghana’s future.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership is crucial for Ghana’s development, especially in the areas of digital economy and technological advancement. He stated,
The leadership that Mahamudu Bawumia is going to provide for us is exactly the leadership we need to take us to the next step of our development. If indeed the biggest strategic interest of the 21st century is the development of the digital economy and the unfolding of the fourth industrial revolution, there is only one man in Ghana today that can take us through that fourth industrial revolution.
The President also highlighted the significant role of Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh. He recalled Prempeh’s key contributions during his tenure as director of Akufo-Addo’s 2012 election campaign. He also lauded him for his successful tenure as Energy Minister, noting his effective management of the sector and contributions to the Free Senior High School policy.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh was the director of my election campaign in 2012 when, by the grace of God and the generosity of the Ghanaian people, I was honored with the office of President of the Republic.
The most important flagship program of my government at its outset was the implementation of the free senior high school policy. I had no doubt in my mind that he was the one person who could implement that policy to success.
Apart from implementing the Free Senior High School policy, he has been our Energy Minister for the last three and a half years, keeping the lights on and restructuring our energy sector
In his closing remarks, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of a united and vigorous campaign for Dr. Bawumia and Matthew Opoku Prempeh. He encouraged party leaders and members to actively support the campaign and promote this golden ticket across the country to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s victory as the 6th President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
