The presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his support for peace in the lead-up to the elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the necessity for Ghanaian voters to prioritize peace at all stages of the upcoming general elections. While campaigning in the Weija-Gbawe constituency of the Greater Accra region on Sunday, he urged church congregants to work towards maintaining peace and order.
He remarked that although elections play a vital role in determining the nation’s future, it is essential to favor constructive dialogue over electoral violence.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by several parliamentary candidates and party officials, including the Greater Accra regional minister, Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Weija-Gbawe parliamentary aspirant Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Anyaa-Sowutuom Member of Parliament Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, and other prominent party figures.
During his church visits, he requested the clergy to pray for him and the parliamentary candidates to ensure their success in the elections. In the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, Dr. Bawumia received a warm welcome from traders and pedestrians at the Ablekuma-Pokuase intersection, where he presented his “Bold Solutions” to the audience.
He assured them that, if elected President, he would create job opportunities by training one million youth in digital skills, thereby addressing the issue of youth unemployment in the country.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia interacted with local clergy, imams, chiefs, and community leaders at Pentecost University, where he discussed various government initiatives, including the Free Senior High School program and free technical and vocational education training.
He underscored the importance of reinstating allowances for nursing and teacher training, as well as the construction of Agenda 111 hospitals.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s establishment of the Zongo Development Fund, which is designed to enhance the Zongo communities by providing ICT centers, improving sanitation facilities, and offering scholarships for students from these areas to pursue medical studies in Cuba.
