More than one hundred individuals with disabilities (PWDs) participated in a discussion regarding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s manifesto yesterday in Accra.
The awareness and engagement initiative, led by Minister for Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe, emphasized various policies aimed at supporting PWDs, including digitalization, inclusive education, and enhanced access to healthcare, among others.
During his lecture, Mr. Cudjoe stated that under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, individuals with disabilities will experience a more inclusive society characterized by improved access to education, employment opportunities, and digital services.
He noted that throughout his tenure as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia has been a key advocate for the digitalization movement in Ghana, promoting digital inclusivity for all Ghanaians.
His focus on digitalisation will improve accessibility through technology, enabling PWDs to access public services, education, and job opportunities via digital platforms.
Mr. Cudjoe highlighted that initiatives such as financial inclusion through mobile money and digital banking will enhance accessibility to financial services for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Furthermore, policies focused on inclusive education and vocational training will provide PWDs with essential skills, thereby improving their employability and engagement in the labor market.
The Minister for Public Enterprises also noted that the introduction of the Free Tertiary Education Scholarship for PWDs, set to be implemented under the forthcoming Bawumia administration, will eliminate financial obstacles that may hinder individuals with disabilities from accessing higher education.
This initiative guarantees that PWDs receive equal opportunities in education, enabling them to gain the skills and knowledge necessary for improved career opportunities.
Aside from that, Dr. Bawumia’s administration plans to elevate the National Council on Persons with Disability to an Authority, giving it more power, resources, and autonomy to implement policies and initiatives for PWDs.
