On December 7, 2024, the chiefs and religious leaders of the Eastern Region’s Afram Plains have decided to alter their voting practices. They have come to this conclusion because they believe that their living conditions have not been improved by the National Democratic Congress, for which they have consistently voted.
They claimed that in spite of the disappointing election results, the NPP has instead demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing their developmental needs.
During a durbar of chiefs, religious leaders, representatives of distinct groups, and community leaders in Donkorkrom, Afram Plains, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, to welcome Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and his entourage, they related some of the infrastructure projects and social interventions that the NPP has carried out in their community that have surpassed the NDC’s record.
Despite voting in large numbers for the NDC for the past 32 years, the leaders of the community—Nana Akuamoa Boateng Tano ll, the chief of Atakora; Alhaji Fuseini Osman, the chief imam of Donkorkrom; and Rev. Dr. Caleb Daribi, the chairman of the Local Council of Churches at Afram Plains—all agreed that the area has not seen much progress from their preferred party.
They expressed their gratitude to the ruling NPP, listing several government initiatives that have greatly benefited them, including the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines, Free SHS, NHIS, Agenda 111, electricity extension projects, and ongoing road construction.
In order to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, and Asiamah Anim and Jacob Zineyele, the party’s parliamentary candidates for Afram Plains North and South, respectively, they consequently urged the locals to cast large ballots in support of them.
The NPP’s vice presidential candidate, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, took advantage of the event to refute the misleading claims made by the Afram Plains North MP of the NDC, who asserts that her portion of the common monies was utilized to purchase DRIP machines for the district.
He added that the MP would not be able to purchase a single DRIP machine even if she had utilized all of her 20 years’ worth of common monies.
The well-known NAPO recalled that, among other infrastructure projects carried out by the NPP government, he had brought electricity to 35 settlements in the Afram Plains region during his time as Energy Minister.
He begged Afram Plains residents to put their trust in the NPP when they cast their ballots on December 7 and promised that the party would not fail them.
