Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has encouraged health workers, especially nursing trainees, to support him in continuing the positive policies introduced by the current government.
Speaking to students of the Nursing and Midwifery Training School in Teshie, Ledzokuku Constituency in Greater Accra, Dr. Bawumia assured them that the NPP government would maintain their allowances, unlike previous administrations that canceled them. He added that, despite occasional delays, receiving the allowance was far better than not having it at all.
Touching on the government’s achievements, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the recruitment of 200,000 medical personnel over the last seven years and discussed the government’s strides in the health sector, such as enrolling 2,456 pharmacists onto the e-pharmacy platform, which makes medicines more accessible to Ghanaians.
He also cited the provision of over 300 ambulances, the revitalization of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the inclusion of treatments for sickle cell and kidney dialysis under the scheme as some key milestones.
Additionally, he pledged to reintroduce the car import duty waiver, which had previously been removed, as a measure to improve the lives of workers in rural postings.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that there are two leading candidates in the upcoming December presidential election, and that Ghanaians must make a critical choice about the future direction of the country.
