Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for increased investment and strategic focus on Ghana’s creative arts sector to drive national development. Speaking to key industry players, he highlighted the importance of empowering creatives to thrive in a digital world.
“We’re partnering with MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and the private sector to build a platform that tracks royalties and manages revenue for musicians and other creatives,” he explained, underscoring the need for systems that ensure artists can fully benefit from their work.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that Ghana must do more to help its creatives maximize opportunities and better manage their earnings. He acknowledged the current challenges in the industry and shared plans for the development of a local music streaming platform as a step toward addressing them.
“The creative arts are crucial to economic growth, and collaboration between this sector and others will ensure its success,” he noted. Dr. Bawumia reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower content creators, stressing that the local streaming platform is just one of many efforts aimed at long-term growth.
“Our work is ongoing,” he concluded, urging continued collaboration and strategic efforts to ensure the future success of Ghana’s creative arts industry.
