Vice President of Ghana and the Flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has indicated that, the Ghana Smart School Initiative will look beyond the Senior High School.
During the interactive section with some students at the launch of the Ghana Smart Schools Project, he revealed that the project seeks to cover all education cycle from Nursery all the way to the tertiary cycle.
According to the Vice President, even though the project will start from the Senior High Schools, measures have been put in place to make sure all levels of education benefits from this project.
‘’This is where we are starting, at the senior high school, but even from the kindergarten level our aim is to get digital devices across. The President made the point that the universities, Tertiary education are also going to be included so that we can have the devices also in the tertiary schools’’.
Dr. Bawumia also mentioned that systems have been established to convert the Basic Education level into a more digitalized one which will help in equipping students with more knowledge about digitalization. He revealed further that the Minister for Education has already putting measure in place to modify the Elementary and Junior High schools into a digital one.
‘The Basic Schools as you all know, there is a lot of work going on in the Basic Schols to transform what the primary schools looks like to bring smart classes into the Basic Schools. There is a lot going on and the Minister for Education is doing a lot of work from the primary schools and the Junior High Schools a new classroom designs are in place, and this will be smart classes as we move along’’.
Explaining further, the Minster for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum noted that significant modifications are ongoing to transform old Primary and Junior High Schools into a modern and digitalized one. He revealed that this is a nationwide exercise which is intended to convert the old school buildings into a modern and digitalized one.
‘Major Transformation is taking place. We can’t talk about Twenty First century learning in Nineteen Century classrooms. So, the old school building that you see at Naagode near Ahinahini, will be a thing of the past. Beautiful schools are being built across the length and breathe of this country. News schools have been built so that we can create the Twenty First Century learning environment to really power our nation out of poverty through digitalization’’.
According to Dr. Adutwum, modern and digitalize classroom blocks has already been established and in a twinkling the Vice President will set it in motion.
‘Smart Classrooms have been established in the Junior High Schools and very soon it will be launched by the Vice President’’.
The Ghana Smart Schools Project is designed to equip students under the free SHS policy with the essential technological skills which falls in line with the government’s aim and vision with regards to advancing education through technology.
