Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting small-scale miners with resources for responsible mining practices.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Seyerano, located in the Sefwi Juaboso constituency in the Western North Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh announced that under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the next NPP government plans to provide miners with necessary machinery, financial aid, and technical training to promote sustainable mining.
He called on residents of Juaboso to support the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate, emphasizing that effective governance is essential for advancing responsible mining. Dr. Opoku Prempeh reassured the mining communities that, while the NPP government supports the industry, it stands firmly against mining practices that harm the environment. This initiative aims to address the pressing issue of illegal mining in Ghana.
In addition, Dr. Opoku Prempeh engaged with students at the College of Health in Sefwi Asafo, reminding them that the NPP’s introduction of Free Senior High School (SHS) allowed many to access education and that allowances, previously halted under John Mahama, have since been restored by the NPP.
It is safe and worthwhile to keep faith in the political party that introduced Free SHS and reinstated your allowances, rather than vote for someone who now claims to have changed
He encouraged the students to back a party that has actively improved education access and financial support for students, contrasting this with opponents’ promises of change.
Reflecting on progress in gender equality in education, he noted that in 2016, only 67 females attended school for every 100 males, but now, for every 100 males, there are 107 females enrolled. Dr. Opoku Prempeh expressed optimism that this positive trend will continue under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.
