Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasized that the NPP has surpassed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
He highlighted that the NDC’s tenure was marked by sluggish economic growth, a decline in agricultural development, and limited industrial progress. It is worth noting that these challenges occurred without the additional burden of the COVID-19 pandemic and the geopolitical tensions resulting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
During his address to NPP members in the United States, Dr. Bawumia underscored the NPP’s remarkable achievements and records, which should serve as the foundation for the party’s 2024 campaign under the slogan “Break the 8.”
He firmly believes that the NPP has a compelling argument to present to the Ghanaian people, justifying their retention in office and their commitment to transforming the nation.
The occasion for his speech was the NPP-USA’s 30th-anniversary celebration, where they honored their heroes and reaffirmed their dedication to securing a prosperous future through victory.
The comparative performance [of what the NDC did while in office and that of the NPP] is practically like night and day. Of course, it is not everything we want to do that we have been able to do but it is true that if it is compared to them [NDC], we have done much more if they are the comparative metric for us.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significant growth in agriculture under the current NPP administration, which has doubled from the levels left by the previous NDC government. The NPP leader emphasized the focus on industrial expansion by the Akufo-Addo administration, leading to the creation of numerous job opportunities, contrasting with the NDC’s track record of increasing unemployment during their time in office.
We have created over the last seven years 2.1 million jobs which have been well documented. 1.2 million jobs in the public sector and 975,000 jobs in the private sector with a crisis and even [amid] COVID, we were recruiting more nurses, in COVID, we did not lay off any public sector worker. We have created more jobs than any other government in the history of Ghana, no government has achieved the record of creating 2.1 million jobs in 7 years.
