THE NPP SHOULD WORK TO AVOID A REPEAT OF THE 2020 PARLIAMENTARY PERFORMANCE – KWAME DUODU

John Kwame Duodu, the First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, has urged parliamentary aspirants from the party to increase their endeavors to achieve a parliamentary majority by 2025.

Mr. Duodu, in his declaration, stressed the significance of robust campaigning, especially in the party’s key areas, while also holding the position of National Deputy Organizer of the Friends of Bawumia 2008 Foundation (FoB-’08) and the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron.

Every member of our great Elephant family needs not to be reminded of the parliamentary seats we lost in the 2020 Parliamentary election as we prepare for the 2024 elections. I humbly implore our dedicated and tireless Parliamentary Candidates to lead our campaigns across the country, especially in our strongholds, to up their game.

In the 2020 elections, the NPP suffered a loss of more than 35 seats to the opposition NDC. This resulted in a difficult governance scenario for President Akuffo Addo’s second term, as the party held a narrow majority in Parliament and the Speaker was from the opposition.

As we work towards breaking the eight, we cannot afford another scenario like the one in January 2021 when His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia is sworn into office as president come January 7, 2025. We must ensure we win a clear majority in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

He encouraged parliamentary candidates in key areas to put in maximum effort to win their seats and guarantee a decisive triumph for Dr. Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.

Serving in Parliament as a member of the ruling party is more advantageous than being an opposition MP. Having a clear majority of Parliamentarians will allow the President to make decisions and formulate policies more flexibly.

Mr. Duodu emphasized the challenges faced by party members during the tenure of the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama from 2008 to 2017. He highlighted the significance of securing success in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections on December 7.

This is a national call to action for all NPP members and our hardworking Parliamentary Candidates. Victory is possible through hard work and empowering the grassroots. The 2024 election is critical for the NPP; we must win a clear majority of Parliamentary seats and also ensure a decisive presidential victory.
