The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that the party’s deep respect for chiefs nationwide is well-founded, as they play a crucial role in the party’s establishment and achievements.
While on a campaign visit to the Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh made a courtesy visit to the Offinso Manhene and his sub-chiefs in Offinso South, emphasizing that chiefs were pivotal in the creation of the United Party (UP) tradition, from which the NPP originated.
He remarked that the party’s reverence for chiefs is a fundamental aspect of its tradition, noting that NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has instructed party members to honor chiefs before engaging with the public during campaign activities.
In support of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s leadership capabilities, the Member of Parliament for Offinso South, Dr. Isaac Yaw Opoku, mentioned that even those in opposition have acknowledged Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s integrity and leadership skills.
He expressed optimism that with Dr. Bawumia as President and Dr. Opoku Prempeh as Vice President, Ghana’s future will be assured. The Offinso Manhene, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, commended Dr. Opoku Prempeh for showing respect to traditional leaders before starting his tour, describing this act as indicative of good upbringing and effective leadership.
He reiterated Offinso’s allegiance to the NPP and encouraged the party to reciprocate their support with increased developmental initiatives in the region.
