THE TEARS ARE UNNECESSARY; ADHERE TO THE PROPER PROCEDURES – NPP TO NDC

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has characterized the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s apprehensions regarding the voters’ register as “unwarranted.”

Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections, stated that the register is provisional, and it is precisely these concerns that prompted the exhibition process.

Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC Director of Elections, expressed doubts about the register’s integrity, alleging that the Electoral Commission (EC) has manipulated it.

He asserted that the current register is “unsuitable for its intended purpose” and has advocated for a forensic audit or a comprehensive parliamentary inquiry to rectify what he terms “irremediably flawed” discrepancies.

Among other issues, he claimed their evaluation uncovered problems such as absent names and unauthorized voter transfers. Nevertheless, during an interview on Wednesday’s Asempa FM Ekosii Sen program, Mr. Nimako reiterated that the initiative is intended to enable stakeholders to identify and rectify any inaccuracies.

This is only a provisional register which allows room for changes. So when there’s an exhibition, the exercise is simple. It is to enable stakeholders and assist the electoral commission to come out with a register that would be the final register for an election.

So, at this phase, we are doing an exhibition, so if you go to the exhibition center and your details are not correct, all that you do is ask for the exhibition officer to give you the appropriate forms, so you feel the right corrections to be made to your details.

In his view, there are due processes the NDC can follow to have their grievances addressed instead of the media outburst.

If they are there and there are no questions to be made, yes, that’s the detail the EC must keep in the final register. So, when you hear people in this phase crying needlessly, it is really surprising,
