Abuakwa South, the constituency of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, warmly embraced the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during his campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
Beginning his day in Abetifi and continuing to Mpraeso, Dr. Bawumia engaged energetically with traditional leaders, market vendors, and local residents.
He then descended the mountains to a rousing welcome in Akyem Asafo, where thousands of supporters, both young and old, gathered to greet him.
Prior to his arrival in Akyem Asafo, the NPP Flagbearer and his team paid a visit to the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, who extended a warm royal welcome, accompanied by the sub-chiefs of the area.
While Dr. Bawumia honored the Okyehene, a large crowd, predominantly composed of youth, assembled in nearby Akyem Asafo, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the man they hope will follow in the footsteps of their esteemed son, President Akufo-Addo.
To signify their support, a prominent banner in the town proclaimed “Changing over from Abuakwa to Walewale,” while the area was adorned in the NPP’s colors of red, white, and blue.
Notably, many young supporters traveled from surrounding towns and villages, some on foot and others on motorcycles, braving the rain to await Dr. Bawumia’s arrival for over five hours.
The Vice President finally reached the venue around 7 PM, accompanied by the current Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Atta Akyea, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, and several prominent NPP figures. Amidst enthusiastic applause, Dr. Bawumia delivered a dynamic address, highlighting the accomplishments of the Akufo-Addo administration and outlining his proposed policies should he be elected President in January 2025.
In his address to the enthusiastic crowd, primarily composed of young people, Dr. Bawumia emphasized job creation and his flagship initiative to train one million youth in information and communication technology (ICT), which aims to provide employment opportunities in digital sectors both within Ghana and internationally.
Dr. Bawumia cautioned the youth about the risks associated with voting for Mahama, whom he characterized as a “second-hand President” lacking a definitive vision for the younger generation. This statement elicited a response from the youth, expressing their intention not to support Mahama in the upcoming election.
