Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the vice-presidential candidate alongside Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority for anticipating disorder and violence in Parliament last Tuesday.
During his address at the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College on Thursday, October 24, 2024, Napo, as he is commonly known, underscored the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) commitment to maintaining peace and stability within the nation.
The free-for-all-fight and bloodshed they were expecting in parliament last Tuesday, we didn’t give them.
We didn’t give because we are disciplined and matured. We understand that Parliament is a place for intellectual debate, not a boxing ring.
Napo’s remarks arise during a period of heightened tensions between the NPP and NDC, with the latter under scrutiny for their behavior in parliament.
This is not the first instance in which Napo has directed criticism towards the NDC; he has previously ridiculed former President John Mahama for choosing an “elderly woman” as his vice-presidential candidate.
Additionally, he cautioned the citizens of Ghana that the NDC would abolish the Free SHS policy if they were to gain power.
Background of the Conflict
The National Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) share a longstanding history of competition, frequently resulting in heightened tensions within parliamentary discussions.
The NDC Minority has expressed significant criticism towards the policies of the NPP, particularly the Free Senior High School initiative, which has been staunchly defended by Napo.
