Queen Mothers from various markets in Kumasi have pledged their unwavering support to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as they prepare for the December 7 elections.
They pointed to the visible progress in their communities and the transformative effect of key policies, such as the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) initiative.
The market leaders expressed their conviction that these policies are paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future.
The declaration was made during a visit by Bantama MP and Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, who met with the queen mothers to update them on the upcoming campaign visit of Vice President and NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
On behalf of the market women, Nana Yaa Fowaa, the Queen Mother of Central Market, commended the government for its many impactful projects over the last eight years. She specifically highlighted improvements in road infrastructure, healthcare, digitalisation, and the Free SHS programme, which she noted has significantly enhanced the lives of families within the community.
Long gone are the days when we had to sell our valuables, even our clothes, to pay school fees for our children. The Free SHS programme has lifted a heavy burden off our shoulders, providing much-needed financial relief and unlocking new opportunities for our children
Nana Yaa Fowaa also recalled the frequent power outages before 2017, sharing how she would often call home to confirm if the electricity was on before heading back.
Today, thanks to the government’s visionary leadership, we no longer face those constant blackouts
she added, expressing her gratitude for the stability that has become the new normal.
Motivated by these accomplishments and other initiatives led by the NPP, the market women pledged their full support for the party.
They vowed to shut down the market on December 7 to ensure a strong turnout in support of the government’s agenda, reaffirming their commitment to the NPP’s vision for progress and development.
