Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has expressed confidence in the NPP’s victory in the upcoming December 7 election, citing the party’s strong track record in government as a key factor. He stated that no amount of criticism from former President Mahama would deter the NPP from retaining power.
Speaking in Goaso, in the Asunafo North Constituency of the Ahafo Region, Dr. Bawumia shared his optimism, noting, “What I see on my tour across the country indicates that the NPP is poised for victory on December 7, backed by the accomplishments of the NPP government.”
Dr. Bawumia also commented on former President Mahama’s recent use of critical language during his campaign, which he believes contradicts the guidelines set for this year’s elections, encouraging respectful discourse. He referenced an Akan saying, “Kasatintin nnto p)nk)”, meaning “insults cannot buy a horse,” to underscore his stance on maintaining decorum.
The remarks were made in response to comments by former President Mahama, who had previously quoted a line from former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign, which included strong language, to emphasize economic issues. Mahama’s comments came after he posed five questions to Dr. Bawumia concerning economic management.
In response, Dr. Bawumia presented 50 questions to Mr. Mahama, which may have prompted further reaction from the former president. However, Dr. Bawumia remains assured that the NPP’s achievements, particularly in infrastructure and education, will resonate with voters.
He highlighted ongoing projects in the Ahafo Region, such as the construction of a new university, a hospital, and urban road developments. Additionally, he noted the success of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy, which has boosted secondary school enrollment from 800,000 to 1.4 million, benefitting 5.7 million school-age children.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that, based on the NPP’s performance, he believes the electorate will endorse their leadership on December 7.
